How is this different from a wedding budget spreadsheet?

A spreadsheet is a download you have to wire up; wedding sites want an account and your email before you type a number. This runs in the browser with neither. The practical difference is that it stays live: mark a cost per-guest and the whole budget recalculates when your guest list changes; record the contracted price next to your original estimate and the forecast always shows where you will actually land, not where you hoped to.

What do the three amounts on each line mean?

Planned is your estimate. Contracted is what you actually signed for — the number that exists once a vendor is booked. Paid is deposits and payments so far. The forecast uses contracted where it exists and planned where it does not, which is the honest answer to "what will this wedding cost?" at every stage of planning — and the gap between planned and contracted per category shows exactly where the budget grew.

Is the "typical split" the right way to allocate a wedding budget?

It is a starting point, not a rule. The split this tool offers (venue and catering taking the largest share, then photography, attire, flowers, music and the rest) reflects a common rule-of-thumb allocation — but weddings vary enormously by region, culture, and what you care about. That is why the split is one optional button and every line stays editable: skip it entirely and build your own if you prefer.

Why does the guest count matter so much?

Because most of a wedding bill is per-head: catering, drinks, cake, favours, stationery, often the venue tier. Mark those items per-guest and the tool multiplies them by your guest count — so when the list grows from 100 to 120, you see the real cost of those twenty invitations instantly, per category and in total. The per-guest figure on the summary is the cleanest number for that conversation.

Can my partner and I both edit it?

Yes. It always saves in the browser you are using; sign in with Google on both phones and the budget syncs — items merge as a union, so an item added on each phone survives, and the newest edit wins on the shared numbers. Export or delete everything any time from My profile.

Is my wedding budget private?

Completely, by default: what you can spend and what you offered each vendor is exactly the information you do not want floating around, and nothing you enter here is uploaded. No account, no email capture, no vendor "matching". If you sign in for sync, the data lives in your private account row and is deletable any time.
